WEED RESISTANCE to common herbicides remains a top concern for corn growers. Atrazine resistance and reports of glyphosate-resistant weeds have growers considering alternatives for weed control in their corn fields.
Balance Pro corn herbicide, manufactured by Bayer CropScience, is one such alternative. The soil-applied product controls more than 50 of the toughest grass and broadleaf weeds, including foxtails, woolly cupgrass, waterhemp and velvetleaf. With a mode of action different from atrazine or glyphosate products such as Roundup or Touchdown, Balance Pro provides the necessary alternative in chemistry to help ward off weed resistance.
Balance Pro can be applied as a burndown instead of or in combination with atrazine and/or Roundup. Balance Pro burns down winter annuals such as marestail, which has been demonstrated to have developed resistance to glyphosate.
“Balance Pro herbicide provides outstanding control of the most common weeds,” said Rob Schrick, Balance Pro product manager. “What makes Balance Pro a step above the others is that it continues to control weeds through canopy with its power of recharge.”
With just a half-inch of rain, Balance Pro recharges to control labeled weeds up to 2 inches tall. So when used as a burndown, growers don't have the inconvenience or expense of an additional pre-emerge herbicide application.
Balance Pro is a flexible herbicide that can be used not only as a burndown, but also in early preplant, preplant incorporated and pre-emergence programs. Balance Pro can be tank-mixed with Define herbicide or other soil-applied herbicides for enhanced grass control, or it can be used as part of a sequential program with herbicides such as Liberty and option.
