USDA has extended the deadline for the Conservation Stewardship Program Grassland Conservation Initiative.

The new deadline to enroll is Nov. 8, 2019. The previous deadline was Oct. 25, 2019.

“I thank the Department for recognizing the need to extend the signup deadline for the new Grassland Conservation Initiative,” said Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. “Some producers are impacted by the change in base acre eligibility for the Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage commodity programs. We included this new conservation initiative in the 2018 Farm Bill to address these acres, and I want to make sure that producers are aware of their eligibility and opportunities to enroll.”

This program is available to producers with base acreage that has been in grass or grasslands over a nine-year period. Producers must meet or exceed the stewardship threshold for one priority resource concern by the end of their five-year contract. Producers receive $18 per acre per year for the next five years. This initiative has different rules than the rest of CSP and is administered separately.
