Posters created by students from Texas and Oklahoma, place nationally at the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) Poster Contest, in Las Vegas, Nev., at the 74th NACD Annual Meeting.

Wyatt Barger, DeKalb, Texas, placed second in the seventh through ninth-grade division, while Tabor Betchan, Pond Creek, Okla., placed third in the second through third-grade division. The poster contest celebrated the 2019 NACD Stewardship theme, “Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper.”

Both students placed first in their state competitions qualifying them for the national competition. Barger, who is in the eighth grade at DeKalb Middle School, represented Texas and the Bowie County Soil and Water Conservation District. Betchan, a second grader at Pond Creek-Hunter School, represented Oklahoma and Grant County Soil and Water Conservation District. 

Barger is the son of Tim and Tonya Barger. He is involved in Destination Imagination, the Robotics Program, U.I.L. One Act Play and serves on the Middle School Student Council. Barger has been recognized in many art shows in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. His hobbies include weekly art lessons at Art from the Heart art studio, gardening, and camping.

Betchan is the son of Kyle and Whitney Betchan. He enjoys playing with friends and building Lego sets. Betchan's interests include baseball and basketball.

The poster contest is a partnership between NACD and the NACD Auxiliary.
