Ohio Forestry Association Foundation offers grants for conservation education

The Ohio Forestry Association Foundation is offering grants to assist organizations in developing small-scale conservation education projects.

Applications will be accepted through Oct. 13 for a maximum individual grant amount of $2,500. Grant awards will be announced by Dec. 1 for funding to be used in the following calendar year. 6 Springfield FFA members to compete in fair

Six members of the Global Impact STEM Academy FFA in Springfield, Ohio, have been named national finalists this year in the following categories and divisions in the National FFA Agriscience Fair:

  • Mailynne Rudnicki, Division 1, Environmental Services and Natural Resource Systems

  • Elise Hess, Division 3, Environmental Services and Natural Resource Systems

  • Joseph Antinori, Division 1, Plant Systems

  • Jackson DeWitt, Division 3, Plant Systems

  • Levi Webster, Division 1, Power, Structural and Technical Systems

  • Phoebe Green, Division 5, Power, Structural and Technical Systems

The National FFA Agriscience Fair is a competition that is part of the annual National FFA Convention & Expo, Oct. 23-26 in Indianapolis.

First-place winners in each state have qualified for the national prequalifying judging. The panel of judges reviewed entries and selected a maximum of 10 in each category and division to move on to the national competition.

Cooper Farms study highlights water conservation

Cooper Farms has released its full 2024 Impact Report, which now includes data on the company’s commitments to water quality and conservation, land stewardship, animal housing, and team member safety.

The report highlights hundreds of data points, including:

  • progress toward reducing water usage at the company’s St. Henry Harvest Plant by 50 million gallons by 2028

  • achieving over 98% landfill-free status

  • the company’s donation of 78,000 pounds of meat and 13,000 dozen eggs in the past year, and $1 million through the Cooper Family Foundation the past three years

  • $31.9 million in free medical care to team members and their families since 2016

  • progress toward 70% cage-free laying hen housing by the end of 2024

  • farm conservation efforts that include reduced tillage, wooded acres, filter strips, composting and tree planting
