I am writing about your article about the grain bin rescue [story featured in the December 2019 issue of The Farmer]. I found it very interesting.

I am member of a local fire department. We had a similar incident this summer. A local farmer was trapped in a grain bin up to his armpits. The difference between our situation and theirs [in the story] is that we have cofferdams and a drill-powered auger specially designed for grain bin rescue. These were donated to us by our local co-op.

We were able to extricate the patient in little over an hour instead of four.

I think telling about grain bin rescue equipment for departments would help save lives.

I never thought we would ever have to use ours. I am very glad we had it. It saved a life and is worth every dollar it cost. I wish all fire departments had the necessary equipment to perform a speedy rescue.
