“Love what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” This often-quoted line was shared during Conversations With the Beck Family at the annual Becknology Days, recently hosted by Beck’s. It’s evident that everyone from CEO Sonny Beck to the cashiers checking people out at the company’s country store believe the adage.

“Becksville” is a site to behold. As you drive through corn and soybean fields toward the mecca from any direction, you see a city of countless white buildings. American flags proudly wave in the breeze. Hospitality exudes from every smiling Beck’s shirt-clad staff member, including those who pick you up at your vehicle in golf carts to whisk you away to the front doors for check-in. Walking around with endless complimentary popcorn and beverages, along with dining on a delicious Shoup’s catered lunch, is a delightful bonus.

This event is a farmer’s dream. The latest in spit-and-polished farm implements and equipment stately sit in a large warehouse, waiting to be drooled on by farmers. Happy chauffeurs driving colorful shuttles lead visitors to multiple fields displaying farming practices and trials of different products. A range of speakers representing the Beck’s family and staff and other agricultural companies present numerous programs in air-conditioned tents.

I’m sure families visiting with their young children appreciate activities where tykes can paint T-shirts, watch with awe the exotic animals from “Silly Safari” and play in a huge playground. The only thing missing was a yellow brick road and a carnival.

This was my first visit to the event. My husband and I do not use Beck’s seed, but we were impressed by the family’s empire and commitment to excellence. More significantly, they espouse to “Founded in faith, forged in America.” Thank you, Beck’s family and staff for a memorable day.
