Dale Koester, Wadesville, Ind., recently joined the Farm Credit Mid-America board of directors. The financial cooperative serves Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Koester’s appointment fills a vacancy created when Kaye Hurst Whitehead died in September. Whitehead, Muncie, Ind., and her husband, Bill, were named Indiana Master Farmers in 1987.

Koester and his wife, Lisa, are part of a multigenerational family farming operation that includes a 200-plus-cow dairy and row crops. The dairy features robotic milkers. The Koester family hosted a stop on the 2021 Indiana Farm Management Tour presented by Purdue University.

Farming rolling soils in Posey County, the Koesters are conservation-minded. They raise wheat for straw. What’s not needed on the farm is sold to a local factory that makes soil erosion control blankets.

Koester developed leadership experience serving in various roles with the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee, Dairy Farmers of America’s Young Cooperator program executive committee and the American Soybean Association’s Young Leader program. He was also a member of Farm Credit Mid-America’s advocate council. That group shares ideas and opportunities with the board.

Based on the organization’s bylaws, Koester was selected to fill the opening by the chairman of the board and sitting board members. His term expires in 2024. Koester will be eligible to serve another four-year term if elected by the membership.
