Is one of your goals of the New Year to get organized? Clutter can build up when you are busy throughout the year, and with some of the downtime that the winter season offers, you may have the opportunity to assess your workspace and organize your farm office. Here are seven ideas to help you organize your smart office:

1. Shakeup your space – shred, donate, recycle or dispose of old equipment, extra cables and cords, office supplies, documents or other materials that are no longer in use. If you do not use them, you do not need them!

2. Sort mail – separate mail into categories as it comes in. Some possible categories to help organize your mail include requires action, needs read, needs filed or needs forwarded.

3. Tidy your digital space – get rid of unnecessary icons on your computer’s desktop, organize your browser’s bookmarks, read your e-mail, delete spam and take time to organize your digital contacts. While you are on your computer, ensure that antivirus software is regularly running scans of your system.

4. Clamp cords and cables – utilize cable wrap to organize cords under desks for a cleaner space. Consider tagging the plugs attached to each device to make them easier to find when you need to!

5. Think outside the box – avoid conforming to the typical office storage options. Try different ideas that fit your space such as baskets, jars, tin cans or even magazine holders to house files, office supplies or other small office equipment to keep your space tidy.

6. Invest in a label maker – from files to storage containers, labels are a handy way to make a place for everything you need in your office space.

7. Plan for the week ahead – set aside a time each week to plan for the week ahead. You can even schedule a regular time to maintain your newly organized office!
