Not ready to buy the new iPhone 7? No problem. You can get some new features with the latest Apple iOS upgrade. The update is compatible with the following generations and above: iPod touch 6, iPad mini 2, iPad 3 and iPhone 5. Here are ten reasons you should upgrade your iPhone’s operating system.

1. Swipe no more. Tired of swiping? With the new iOS you can unlock your iPhone by just pressing the home button.

2. Wake up. Your phone will wake up now and show you notifications on your lock screen just by lifting it.

3. Keep it under control. The control center, revealed by swiping up, now offers two separate pages. If you have not used this previously, you can easily access your camera, calculator, flashlight and several other features.

4. Not on lockdown. You can now view and respond to messages directly from your lock screen.

5. Handwriting is back. You can now handwrite messages through text and in notes.

6. Get the message. There are several changes to iMessage that include functions inspired from social media such as sharing content from apps, making payments, sketches and new emojis.

7. Keep it dry. The new system provides a warning if water is detected in the lightning port. Even a small amount of water can cause damage so this is a great addition to keep your technology working.

8. Reading your mind. Predictive typing using Siri’s intelligence will offer information for responses in messages and calendar events — saving you time.

9. Where did I park? Maps is now more integrated with your smartphone. Your device will take note of where you parked and remind you. It will make suggestions on the best route to take. You can even make reservations and schedule a ride (if you’re near a large city).

10. Turn on the lights. Do you have smart accessories? Apple’s new operating system offers automation control too!
