Geringhoff unveils revolutionary corn head

The new corn head is expected to hit the market in 2015.

Geringhoff, manufacturer of harvesting equipment, unveiled a “concept” corn head that promises to revolutionize how farmers harvest corn. The corn head can combine crops including corn from any direction and regardless of row spacing, opening the way for solid-seeded corn.

“The concept [of solid seeding] is there, and the ability is there, and maybe we can get a 10% yield increase with that alone,” says Joseph Jandrisch, president and CEO of Geringhoff. “But how do you harvest the crop? That has been the challenge with historical corn heads. So with our independent head, we’ve overcome that issue.”

Geringhoff has invested more than $4 million in the prototype, which can harvest corn independent of any set row spacing. The company expects to market the product in 2015.
