California winter wheat producers will harvest 550,000 acres this summer, 22 percent more than in 2006. Another 100,000 acres are in durum wheat, 43 percent above the 70,000 acres planted last year.

For the U.S., all wheat planted area totals 60.3 million acres, 5 percent above 2006. Winter wheat seedings are estimated at 44.5 million acres, up 10 percent from 2006. Durum wheat producers plan to plant 1.99 million acres, up 6 percent from last year. California farmers will harvest 75,000 acres of barley, down 17 percent from 2006. U.S. growers intend to plant 3.70 million acres for 2007, 7 percent above last year.
