The Indiana Beef Cattle Association celebrated the opportunity to meet in person again in 2022 by naming several award recipients at its annual conference earlier this year. Awards recognize those who assist in making the Indiana beef industry what it is today.
Here is a brief look at the award winners:
Dale Grubbs. Grubbs and his family operate Grubbs Angus Farm near Hillsboro, Ind. He has raised numerous state and national champions over the past three decades. Grubbs received the 2020 Robert C. Peterson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr. Larry Horstman. This longtime Purdue University educator and veterinarian received the Peterson award for 2021. He is the authority for reproduction issues related to the Indiana Bull Test program. Well-known for training veterinary medicine students, he is also respected by the livestock industry throughout Indiana.
Kelley Sheiss. Sheiss, husband Donnie and son Dillon operate 3-D Stock Farms near Larwill, Ind. The farm features 75 head of brood cows, plus crops, swine and poultry. Sheiss was honored as the Outstanding Cattlewoman of the Year.
Scott Kreuzman. This young cattleman from Batesville, Ind., received the Outstanding Young Cattleman of the Year award. He also operates a consulting business specializing in livestock permitting and compliance work.
Wayne Singleton. Recognized for training generations of cattlemen and cattlewomen during his career at Purdue spanning over 40 years, Singleton was awarded the Friend of Industry award. He continues to assist with breeding soundness exams in the Indiana Beef Evaluation Program.
Jeff Sherfield. This young cattleman took home the Top Hand award. He recruited more new members to IBCA during 2021 than anyone else. Sherfield hails from Spencer, Ind.
