Beef expo to highlight latest research and practices

Beef producers invited to learn from UT Extension and UT AgResearch experts on October 17.

The annual Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo presented by the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is scheduled for October 17, 2024. Hosted by the Northeast Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, the expo features experts from UT Extension, UT AgResearch and other industry partners who will provide beef producers with information on the latest research and practices in beef production.

This year’s expo is for one day only and includes a tradeshow with more than 50 vendors. Nationally recognized speaker, Paige Pratt, and her husband, Jason, of Pratt Cattle Company will be the guest speakers. They will utilize their experiences as business owners and Angus cattle producers to discuss how to create cows that sustain a herd for the long term.

Expo topics

Topics of interest to beef producers during the expo programs include:

  • Fire Ants in Pastures

  • Controlling Callery Pear, Locusts and Brambles

  • Hayfield Management: Johnsongrass Control and Forage Quality

  • How to Maintain a 12-month Calving Interval from the Cow and Bull Perspective

  • Feeder Calf Health Problems

  • Pinkeye Management and Autogenous Vaccines

  • Genetic and Phenotypic Selection for Beef Production

Pre-registration for the event is required, and the deadline to register is October 14. Producers can register online at tiny.utk.edu/NETBE or at their local Extension Office.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. EDT. Programs will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude around 4 p.m. The registration cost is $25 per person and includes lunch. 4-H and FFA members receive a discount.
