Cattle, forage day set May 8

Co-sponsored by the Beauregard Parish Cattlemen's Association, the event will feature tours of research plots at the station and will include the 16th annual Beauregard Cattlemen's Trade Show. Admission to the events is free, and the public is invited to attend.

LSU AgCenter personnel will conduct two tours during the field day – one focused on beef cattle and the other on forage production. To allow participants to take part in the tours on both subject areas, the first round of tours will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the second will begin at 4 p.m.

The beef cattle tour will include information on the LSU AgCenter work on the market cow project and a discussion on bulls and breeding soundness. The forage tour will include a demonstration on using fence row herbicides and a discussion on the results of recent forage tests.

Manufacturers and dealers also will open the trade show at noon, and the show will feature exhibits on the latest developments in the production of forage and livestock. Those displays will include tractors, implements, trucks, trailers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, feed, fertilizers, livestock equipment, communications and financial and business services.

A complimentary meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., and the trade show and field day will close at 7 p.m.

In addition to the tours and trade show, industry representatives and LSU AgCenter personnel will be on hand for individual consultations with producers during the event. And numerous LSU AgCenter and commercial publications will be available for producers.

For more information on the field day, contact the Rosepine Research Station at (337) 463-7708 or [email protected], or contact a county agent in your parish's LSU AgCenter Extension office.

The LSU AgCenter's Rosepine Research Station serves beef cattle and forage producers in western and central Louisiana and has a history of providing practical, applicable information for them, as well as other producers in the state.
