For 65 years, the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show at Memphis has provided a venue for tackling the industry’s toughest production challenges. This year will be no different, with a slate of seminars and workshops designed to do just that.

There will be a special Xtend Your Dicamba Knowledge seminar Friday, March 3, at 10:45 a.m., in the Steamboat Room of the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Sponsored by Deltapine, the seminar aims at helping to educate the industry on how to successfully integrate dicamba into weed management programs in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans and Bollgard II XtendFlex cotton. Ryan Rector, Monsanto technology development manager for dicamba; Dr. Larry Steckel, University of Tennessee row crop weed specialist; and growers with experience using XtendiMax with VaporGrip will be among the presenters.

The EPA has approved XtendiMax herbicide with VaporGrip technology, a low-volatility dicamba herbicide, for in-crop use with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans and Bollgard II XtendFlex cotton.

“This significant milestone will provide farmers the opportunity to utilize dicamba in the Roundup Ready Xtend Crop System in 2017,” says Tim Price, SCGA executive vice president and show manager. “With the launch of this new herbicide technology, it is critical that we, as an industry, are good stewards in order to insure its effectiveness and to protect our access to it, and future technological advances.

“With resistant weeds a persistent problem in many Mid-South fields, it is important for growers, crop consultants, applicators, and seed and chemical dealers to know everything they can about the application of XtendiMax with VaporGrip Technology on Bollgard II XtendFlex cotton and Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans before fieldwork begins this spring.”

Topics covered in the program will include EPA label explanation; application requirements for best drift control; review of approved dicamba formulations for 2017; and the importance of employing a complete pre-emergence and postemergence residual herbicide program for best weed management in the Roundup Ready Xtend Crop system.
