Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has announced the appointment of Michigan Agri-Business Association Vice President Tim Boring to the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development.

“I’m honored to be appointed by Gov. Whitmer to the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development and look forward to working with the department and members of the commission for the betterment of Michigan agriculture,” Boring says. “I welcome the opportunity to help shape agriculture policy, rules and regulations that will help Michigan’s producers and agribusinesses succeed today and in the future.”

The Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development provides oversight and executive direction for the programs of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and approves the rules and regulations the department promulgates.

Boring owns and operates Boring Farms in Stockbridge, Mich. He holds a Ph.D. in crop and soil sciences from Michigan State University.

“Tim Boring will bring a unique skill set to the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development, and I believe he will be an asset to the commission from day one,” says Jim Byrum, president of the Michigan Agri-Business Association. “I have no doubt Tim’s vast knowledge of crop sciences coupled with his on-farm experience will prove to be invaluable.”

Boring’s term begins Jan. 1 and expires Dec. 31, 2023. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.
