1. USDA plans to spend up to $12 billion to help ag producers facing market disruptions. The three programs are the Market Facilitation Program, the Food Purchase and Distribution Program and the Trade Promotion Program. 2. Farmers for Free Trade is pushing for an end to Trump’s policy of using tariffs to try to combat trade practices by China, Canada, Mexico and other countries that buy U.S. products—including ag products such as soybeans, pork, beef, corn and more. – Wallaces Farmer

3. Canadian corn is flowing into Europe at the fastest pace in four years. Corn shipments to western European countries rose 85% year over year during the nine months from the start of Canada’s corn marketing year on Sept. 1. - Reuters

4. The Trump administration is helping to draft an alternative approach to antibiotic use in farm animals. The World Health Organization released guidelines in November that called for an end to giving medically important antibiotics to healthy animals to promote growth or prevent disease. – Beef Producer

5. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer is saying that a deal on an updated North American Free Trade Agreement can be reached by the end of August. – The Hill

6. Archer Daniels Midland Company will acquire Roselle Inc., a premium originator, processor and supplier of vanilla products. Rodelle is based in Fort Collins, Colorado. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter. – Prairie Farmer 

7. Eli Lilly & Co. will spin off its animal-health unit Elanco, which sells medication for livestock and pets and had $3.09 billion in revenue last year. – Beef Producer

The Food and Drug Administration plans to enforce the definition of milk as something that comes from a cow. The agency has long had a definition of milk as being an animal-based product, but it hasn’t been enforced. – Wisconsin Agriculturalist
