1. Jurors awarded Lee Johnson, a former school groundskeeper, $289 million in his suit against Monsanto, charging Roundup caused his non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Monsanto said it would appeal. Shares of Bayer fell by the most in seven years after the ruling was issued. – Farm Futures

2. The Senate version of the Farm Bill includes a provision that equates hemp to other commodity crops. If approved, hemp researchers will be able to apply for USDA grants and hemp growers will be able to be covered by federal crop insurance. – Politico 

3. Exporting surplus U.S. dairy products is essential to milk prices, said Marin Bozic, associate professor of dairy foods marketing economics at the University of Minnesota. But while the U.S. is renegotiating trade agreements and fighting a trade war, U.S. trade competitors are aggressively fighting for market share. – Wisconsin Agriculturalist

4. Farm production expenditures in the United States were $359.8 billion for 2017, up from $346.9 billion in 2016. The 2017 total farm production expenditures are up 3.7% compared with 2016 total farm production expenditures.- Ohio Farmer

5. Kansas State University scientists, in collaboration with the International Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium, published a detailed description of the complete genome of bread wheat, the world's most widely-cultivated crop in the international journal Science. – Kansas Farmer 

6. The American West appears to be moving east with the line that divides the North American continent into arid Western regions and humid Eastern regions shifting. - NPR 

7. Voting has opened in America’s Pig Farmer of the Year program. The four finalists: Patrick Bane, Arrowsmith, Ill.; Bill Luckey, Columbus, Neb.; Brad Lundell, Kiron, Iowa; and Kevin Rasmussen, Goldfield, Iowa. – National Hog Farmer
