Brillion expands zone-tillage equipment

Brillion has responded to an increasing demand for zone-tillage equipment by expanding its equipment lineup to include 4-, 6- and 8-shank models of the company's popular Strip-Till System units.

“Producers have discovered the benefits of the zone-tillage system,” says Mike Irish, vice president of the Farm Equipment Division of Brillion Iron Works. “These new units offer producers more choices that better fit their equipment needs.”

The STP-30 Strip-Till System was designed and tested in partnership with zone-tillage pioneer Ray Rawson. It is designed to manage crop residue, improve soil tilth, precisely place fertilizer and prepare the seedbed for maximum productivity.

Individual row units are set on 30-inch centers, and each row unit features a double coulter with 20-inch fluted blades. This unique double lead coulter design cuts and sizes residue, while preparing a 10-inch wide strip that warms the soil faster than narrow slots. A narrow three-quarter-inch shank on an automatic reset mount follows the double lead coulters at a depth between 6 inches and 10 inches.

The shank can be equipped with fertilizer injection equipment to apply liquid or dry fertilizer in the strip directly under the seed.

A pair of adjustable closing coulters follows the shank to bring loose soil back into the strip, maintaining the integrity of the seeding environment.

A 20-inch rolling basket completes the task of preparing the seedbed by firming the strip for optimum planting performance.

“Producers who switch to the zone-tillage system are seeing higher yields with lower input costs,” Irish says. “These new units bring the benefits of zone-tillage to more producers.”

The STP-30 is available in 4-, 6-, and 8-shank models. Tractor requirements are 20 hp to 30 hp per shank.

Standard equipment includes double 20-inch wavy coulters, auto-reset shanks, adjustable 20-inch closing coulters, 20-inch blade-style baskets and adjustable gauge wheels.
