1. 2013 was the 18th year of successful commercialization of biotech crops.
2. Biotech hectares increased more than 100-fold from 1.7 million in 1996, to 175 million in 2013. (1 hectare equals about 2.5 acres)
3. Of the 27 countries growing biotech crops, 19 were developing and eight were industrial.
4. In 2013, developing countries planted more hectares than industrial countries.
