Helping Animal Agriculture Grow Is Mission of the Day

Governor's economic summit in Garden City focuses on how to help current business succeed, attract more to Kansas

Gov. Sam Brownback sees animal agriculture being pushed out of other parts of the country and he has one message for those producers: Come on to Kansas.

In remarks opening an Economic Summit on Animal Agriculture in Garden City, Brownback said that Kansas has unique advantages that will help animal agriculture already here succeed and attract more of it to the state.

Brownback said Kansas beef is already a world-renowned success story and he'd like to see more hogs, more poultry and more dairy come here as well.

The summit is now divided into six working groups to come up with specific recommendations for making the vision into a portfolio of opportunity at Brownback says Secretary of Agriculture Dale Rodman will take with him to recruit business to Kansas.

Breakout groups are addressing workforce issues, what advantages Kansas offers, food safety, animal welfare and animal health, marketing and innovation and Global Perspective and Technology.

Stay tuned. I'll be posting a snapshot of what the groups are talking about as the day goes on.
