It’s no secret that I love apps. I use them all the time on my own phone. I was recently told about new farming apps: eCropScout and FarmLogs
eCropScout
eCropScout is a free app designed to be used by crop consultants, farmers, seed dealers, agronomists and agricultural professionals. It offers scouting sheets for weeds, insects and diseases. Application sheets are available for chemicals, fertilizer and manure. Users can also input planting and harvest data. You can also add maps and create pdfs of each sheet you fill out.
Features of the app include:
Easy to navigate App for farmers, agronomists and agricultural professionals to save all their information: field scouting, Insect and disease scouting, chemical applications, fertilizer/manure applications, planting data, and harvesting data.
Crop scouts, agronomists and agricultural professionals will scout farm fields and enter data about the field crops. They then can save, email or print the scouting report to their growers.
The App allows importing field maps, Google Maps, and taking pictures of the field. You can also draw your own maps or draw on any of the imported maps and pictures. The map will print on the 2nd page or back of a scouting report. You can view the map by clicking on the View Map button.
Field information is stored on the iPad in iBooks for emailing or printing.
The app is free on iTunes for iPad and on GooglePlay. Registration is free to become a silver member, which still offers full use of the app. It also gives you a membership at grainshed.com (Prairie Farm Club). By registering, you get an ID that you input to use the app. Registration very simple and easy and I found the app very easy to navigate and use.
FarmLogs
FarmLogs a farm management app available from the FarmLogs company. Using the app, you can log records from the field, in the shop, etc. Log your planting, log your scouting, log your machinery maintenance.
Field activities such as planting, fertilizing and harvesting can be quickly entered and tracked right from the GPS-enabled mobile apps. Multiple team members can track activities and make updates in real time. Any information entered using the app will sync with the online account, so information is accessible anywhere and everywhere.
The app itself is free, and available on iTunes and GooglePlay. However, full use of the app requires a subscription to FarmLogs. The company offers a 30-day free trial. After that, current pricing is 5¢/acre/month or 50¢/acre/year. The price includes unlimited access to FarmLogs (unlimited users for both web and mobile), customer support, automatic daily backups and automatic updates.
