Know an outstanding farm mom who makes a positive difference in her family, farm, community and agriculture? Maybe it’s your mother, sister, wife, daughter, friend. Maybe it’s you.

If you do, let everyone know by nominating her to be the 2012 Farm Mom of the Year and to receive up to $10,000 in prize money.

Time is of the essence, however. Nominations will be accepted only through April 23 at www.AmericasFarmers.com.

The program, in its third year, is the product of a partnership between Monsanto and American Agri-Women.

To nominate your favorite farm mom you’ll need to tell — in 300 words or fewer — how she:

• Supports her Family – What makes this mom really special to her family? What attributes are especially appreciated above and beyond all the daily tasks and responsibilities moms perform?

• Supports her Farm – Whether it's keeping the books or driving a combine, how does the mom play an important role in the success of the family farm?

• Supports her Community – How does this mom contribute to her community through involvement in agriculture organizations or support for other community activities?

• Supports Agriculture – How does she share her passion for agriculture with others and how does she help educate consumers about ag?

On April 27, five regional winners will be announced. They will receive $5,000 and will be featured at AmericasFarmers.com.

Online voting for the national winner will take place May 1-12. The national winner will be announced at www.AmericasFarmers.com on Mother’s Day, May 13. The national winner recieves an additional $5,000 prize.

Mid-South farm moms are included in the Southeast region (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia). The other four regions are Northeast, Midwest, Southwest, and Northwest.

Teresa Chambers, 2011 Southeast regional winner, and her husband, Judd, operate Chambers’ Dairy in Macon, Ga. In additional to their cattle, they raise hay, sorghum and ryegrass.

She works daily with her husband at their dairy, one of the last still operating in Jones County, Ga. She is chair of the Women’s Committee of the Jones County Farm Bureau and active in Ag in the Classroom, sharing her love for agriculture with elementary school children.

April Hemmes, America’s Farmers Mom of the Year 2011 for the Midwest Region, feels the contest is a great opportunity to recognize women in the male-dominated farming industry. “I think this effort really brings awareness to farm women, who are often under-recognized,” she says. “This contest is a great way to tell her you love her and she’s doing a great job.’”
