E15 reaches one million mile mark

E15 has now reached the one million mile mark, fuelling NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series vehicles in races, practice and qualifying trials. NASCAR hit the mark at the Watkins Glen International Speedway in mid August.

NASCAR has used more than 328,000 gallons of Sunoco Green E15 in testing, practice, qualifying and racing. It has reported that ethanol from American-grown corn is 59 percent cleaner than conventional gasoline and, with an octane of 113, improves engine performance and horsepower.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will switch to electronic fuel injection in 2012, which is expected to further lower the emissions of race cars.
