Biotech Crops: Not Barred In China?

The Chinese government has not barred the entry of biotech, or GMO, crops, says a senior Chinese governmental official as quoted by Sparks Commodities.

Fang Xiangdong, a senior officer at the China Ministry of Agriculture's Department of Science, Technology and Education, says the government only issued new rules to establish safety regulations on both imported and domestic genetically modified crops, according to the American Soybean Association.

Although China issued regulations on the management of GMOs this summer, implementation guidelines for the new regulations are still on the table.
