Biotech Crops Increase Worldwide

Worldwide, the number of farmers planting biotech crops grew at a double-digit pace in 2003, the seventh consecutive year of growth for the technology.

That's according to the annual report on biotech crop acreage from the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA).

The report says that biotech crops were grown in 18 countries in 2003, up from 16 in 2002, with the addition of Brazil and the Philippines. Global market value is predicted to reach $5 billion or more by 2005.
