Baler bonanza Vermeer claims that its new XL500 series round balers make bales that are 17% larger than those made by the previous L series balers and they're easier to use. The XL555 makes bales that are 5 ft. wide and about 5 1/2-ft. tall; the XL554 makes 4-ft.-wide, about 5 1/2-ft.-tall bales. Also new from Vermeer is the XL600 series (pictured). The XL605 makes 5-ft.-wide, 6-ft.-tall bales; the XL604 makes 4-ft.-wide, 6-ft.-tall bales. Improvements to balers in the two series include a stronger, reinforced frame throughout; standard cutout clutch; and improved safety standards, including beefed-up lighting for greater visibility and a heavy-duty, 10,000-lb.-test safety towing chain. Prices range from $18,580 to $24,479 for the XL500 series and from $22,199 to $30,236 for the XL600 series. Contact Vermeer Mfg. Co., Dept.
