The Kansas Beef Council reminds cattle producers that Beef Quality Assurance certification training is available online to fit their needs.

While KBC is planning on numerous in-person BQA training opportunities for cattle producers this summer and in the early fall, these online training modules are available to those whose certifications are expiring this year and wish to requalify. The COVID-19 pandemic caused KBC to cancel in-person BQA trainings in 2020. In their place, KBC partnered with A.J. Tarpoff, Kansas State University Beef Extension veterinarian, to produce two producer education videos that fulfill BQA requirements.

The first video was a virtual chute-side cattle demonstration using both GoPro and drone technology to showcase the key principles of BQA, and apply them in a relatable, real-world setting. Tarpoff discusses proper vaccine storage and handling; needle size; low-stress cattle handling; and facility design, all while processing cattle through the squeeze chute.

The second video highlights facility design and how it can affect both animal handling and stewardship. Viewers can gain a few practical, low-cost strategies that they can implement on their small and large cattle operations. Currently, KBC is planning a third video in this BQA training series.

To see these and more online educational opportunities, Kansas cattle producers can visit the new “Beef Hub” on the KBC website, at kansasbeef.org/beefhub.

And, to see more online training modules for BQA certification that are customized to meet the needs of each industry segment, including cow-calf, stocker, feedyard and dairy, visit bqa.org.
