The Speedglas 9000Xi auto-darkening welding lens from Hornell is designed for TIG inverter welding technology. When in high-sensitivity mode, the lens can detect the extremely steady (flat frequency) arc produced by new TIG inverters. The company claims that the lens has been proven effective at settings as low as 1 amp. The 9000Xi changes from a shade 3 to shades 9 to 13, depending on the settings. The viewing area of the lens measures 4.09 x 2.13 in. Price: $400 for lens, or $430 for lens and helmet. Contact Hornell Inc., Dept. FIN, 2374 Edison Blvd., Twinsburg, OH 44087, 800/628-9218, www.hornell.com.

You can just pop out the existing filter in your helmet and install the Focus AH-240 in its place. Price: $85. Contact Nassau International Inc., Dept. FIN, 24 S.
