Asian soybean rust major part of Jan. 18 meeting

EXPERTS WILL share information on Asian soybean rust with farmers and agribusiness leaders during the annual meeting of the Louisiana Soybean Association Jan. 18 at Alexandria, La. The meeting will start at noon in the conference room at the LSU AgCenter Dean Lee Research Station located adjacent to the LSU-Alexandria campus.

“Farmers are very interested in the effect Asian soybean rust will have on their operations, so we invited a number of professionals to give educational presentations at the meeting and answer questions about the disease,” said LSU AgCenter soybean specialist David Lanclos.

Following a short business meeting, the meeting will feature presentations and discussions on the life cycle, agronomics, economics and risk management of Asian soybean rust.

Speakers from the LSU AgCenter include economist Kurt Guidry, soybean specialist David Lanclos, and disease pathologist Boyd Padgett. Other experts include Rock Davis, who will discuss risk management, and Kyle McCann from the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation.

Farmers who are interested in attending the meeting are urged to contact Lanclos at 318-473-6530 or by e-mail at to register in advance for the meeting.

“This will be a opportunity for soybean farmers to learn about the latest developments in the Asian soybean rust situation and to discuss production strategies for the coming year with professionals,” Lanclos said.
