The Arkansas Soybean Association will meet Jan. 25 for its 47th annual Business Session and Seminar.

The seminar and business session will be held at the Convention Center (1501 Weatherby Drive) in Brinkley, Ark., with registration beginning at 8:15 a.m. The program begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude in mid-afternoon.

Lunch will be provided by the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board.

The program will include a post-election political update, information on the soybean breeding program at the University of Arkansas and a panel on technology and seed licensing (what is ahead for the seed industry).

There will also be updates from the American Soybean Association, the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board, and the United Soybean Board.

Speakers include Pengyin Chen, University of Arkansas soybean breeder; Stewart Doan, senior editor, AgriPulse; Rob Joslin, chair, American Soybean Association; Grover Shannon, research director, Delta Center, Portageville, Mo.; Duff Nolan, attorney, Stuttgart, Ark.; and Lisa O’Brien, executive director, United Soybean Board.

The Arkansas Soybean Association will hold its annual business session of membership. During the meeting, the winners of the 2010 Yield Challenge will be announced and the 2011 DuPont Young Leaders, Andy and Stephanie Noble of DeWitt, Ark., will be recognized.

Ag business reps will be present to answer questions. There will be a live auction during lunch to raise funds for lobbying and special projects. Auction items, provided by members of the soybean industry, include soybean seed, crop protection chemicals, trout fishing, custom applications, pearls, and many other similar items.

“This is a busy time of year for all producers and we have designed our meeting to meet the needs of our membership. We are providing information we feel is important to producers in a day,” said Bobby Swanson, Arkansas Soybean Association president.
