Arizona soil fumigant training next week

Arizona soil fumigant training sessions scheduled the week of Feb. 21 at four Arizona locations: Feb. 22 in Yuma; Feb. 23 in Buckeye; Feb. 24 in Willcox; and Feb. 25 in Maricopa; For more information, visit http://cals.arizona.edu/crops/counties/all/events.html. 

Recent re-registration eligibility decisions have resulted in significant changes to regulations associated with the use of certain soil fumigant products including: metam sodium, chloropicrin, methyl bromide, and metam potassium.

The University of Arizona in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Agriculture and industry representatives will provide training sessions designed to provide information related to new regulations including buffer zones, fumigant management plans, good agricultural practices, respirator requirements, and more.

The training sessions will be held at four Arizona locations.

Feb. 22: Yuma Ag Center, 6425 W. 8th St., Yuma – Noon to 5 p.m.

Feb. 23: Buckeye Elk's Lodge, 109 N. 5th St., Buckeye - 8 a.m. to Noon

Feb. 24: Willcox Community Center, 312 W. Stewart St., Willcox – 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Feb. 25: Maricopa Ag Center, 37860 W. Smith-Enke Rd., Maricopa – 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The training is mainly for those involved in soil fumigant applications including handlers, applicators (custom and private), and pest control advisors.

4.5 CEUs for Arizona and California have been requested.

Lunch will be provided. There is no fee to attend.
