Durum wheat has matured on 90 percent of Arizona’s acreage with harvest completed on 35 percent of the acreage, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s (NASS) Arizona Field Office on June 18, 2007.

Arizona barley was 95 percent mature with 40 percent of the acres harvested.

Cotton squaring was complete on 50 percent of Arizona’s acreage compared to the 5-year average of 46 percent. NASS rated cotton condition as 47 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.

The alfalfa harvest was active on over three-quarters of Arizona’s acreage. The condition ranged from fair to excellent.

Western Arizona growers shipped cantaloupes, honeydews, mixed melons, green onions, and seeded and seedless watermelons during the week of June 11. Producers in central Arizona shipped cantaloupes, honeydews, mixed melons, dry onions, potatoes, and seeded and seedless watermelons.

Temperatures were above normal in Arizona for the week ending June 17. Temperatures ranged from 1 degree below normal at Paloma to 7 degrees above normal at Prescott. The highest temperature of the week was 110 degrees in Maricopa, Phoenix, and Roll. The lowest reading of 33 degrees occurred at the Grand Canyon.
