Cline receives CAFA’s Jim Kuhn leadership award

Harry Cline, Western Farm Press editor, has received the Jim Kuhn Leadership Award from the California Alfalfa and Forage Association (CAFA).

Harry Cline, Western Farm Press editor, has received the Jim Kuhn Leadership Award from the California Alfalfa and Forage Association (CAFA).

CAFA Chairman Robert Ferguson presented the award to Cline Dec. 12 during the 2013 Western Alfalfa and Forage Symposium in Reno, Nev.

“In his capacity as editor of Western Farm Press, Harry has had the privilege of reporting on an amazing period of change in California and Arizona agriculture driven by the most productive and innovative farmers in the U.S.,” Ferguson said.

Alfalfa and forage crops have been a cornerstone of Cline’s agricultural journalism career. He has penned thousands of articles about alfalfa.

Ferguson said, “In his WFP editorials, Harry has been a strong proponent and a voice of common sense for the bioengineered technology for crop improvements. He reports sound scientific information on the changes that are occurring in modern agriculture and the real challenges it faces in feeding the future’s growing population.”

Jesse Richardson, Western Society of Weed Science past president, added, “Harry’s courage in standing up to groups who try to suppress important, proven technology is critical to the scientific advancement of agriculture.”

Cline brokered a partnership between CAFA and Western Farm Press. This partnership afforded CAFA monthly column space in Western Farm Press print and online editions.

This bolstered CAFA’s presence and at the same time established Western Farm Press as a major source of information about Western alfalfa production.

Cline will retire from Western Farm Press Dec. 31.
