Ag Science Week Feb. 5-8 at UM-Columbia

EIGHT CONFERENCES, some old and some new, scheduled around the traditional Ag Day BBQ will be held during Ag Sciences Week, Feb. 5-8, at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

The flagship event, the Ag Sciences Day BBQ, will be Wednesday, Feb. 7., says James Hundle of the Dean's office, who is coordinating the week's activities. Lunch tickets are $12 in advance, or $15 at the door. New this year is e-mail ordering at

Also new is a conference on eCommerce on Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., said Ken Schneeberger. "We'll outline some of the possibilities of using the Internet for business by farmers and agribusinesses." The registration fee of $25 includes lunch. Fifth Annual Missouri Precision Agriculture Conference, Monday, Feb. 5 from 8 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Participants share new information on how they use Global Positioning Systems in farming. Greenhouse Growers School, Tuesday, Feb. 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The program is aimed at greenhouse operators involved with floriculture crops, says David Trinklein, MU horticulturist. Call him for information at 573-882-9631.

Breimyer Seminar: Rural Land-Use Conflict in Missouri, Tuesday, Feb. 6 at the Reynolds Alumni Center. The policy meeting will discuss the suburban expansion into rural areas, according to Christine Wheeler of the MU Community Policy Analysis Center. Registration is $35 and includes lunch.
