Ag and nature tourism workshop slated in Reedley

Farmers and ranchers will learn to harvest the hidden assets of their businesses at a University of California Cooperative Extension workshop in Reedley 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 14 that covers all aspects of setting up a new agri-tourism or nature tourism venture.

Agri-tourism and nature tourism can take many forms. Examples include roadside stands, farmers' markets, overnight farm stays, ag tours, bed and breakfasts, hiking, hunting, U-pick operations, pumpkin patches, Christmas tree farms, corn mazes, farm-animal petting zoos and wine tasting. These attractions can bring profits never realized through the traditional farm and ranch operations of growing and selling food and fiber.

Registration for the workshop is $40 per person and $25 for each additional individual representing the same business. To register, send a check payable to “UC Regents” to UCCE Tulare County, Agritourism Workshop, 4437 S. Laspina St., Suite B, Tulare, CA 93274. For more information, contact the UCCE office at (559) 685-3303 or [email protected].
