2005 Louisiana Cotton Forum Slated For Feb. 3

MONROE, La. – The LSU AgCenter will provide the latest information for cotton producers in the state as it hosts the 2005 Louisiana Cotton Forum Feb. 3 in Monroe.

Louisiana Extension cotton specialist Sandy Stewart said the program, which has become a fixture in the northeast Louisiana cotton scene, highlights some of the latest cotton research being done by LSU AgCenter researchers.

"We have several experts who will be speaking on a variety of topics ranging from planting dates to plant population effects on cotton growth and yield to nematode management," Stewart said. "The program we have planned reflects production topics and issues facing the Louisiana cotton industry."

In addition to the topics Stewart mentioned, others to be covered at the forum include weed control in Roundup Ready Flex Cotton, weed resistance management and management of stink bugs and plant bugs in Louisiana cotton. A report on cotton economics and the results of a cost of production survey also will be given.

This year’s forum will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Holidome in Monroe.

"The Cotton Forum takes place in the afternoon this year, as opposed to the morning and all-day programs we’ve had in the past," Stewart said. "This is because the next day, Feb. 4, is the annual meeting of the Louisiana Cotton Producers Association. This meeting also will be held at the Holidome, and everyone is invited to attend both meetings."

The Holiday Inn Holidome is located at 1051 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Monroe.
