High Yield Potential, Better Weed Control
Farmers See Benefits with Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® Soybeans

By Tony White
Monsanto Soybean Product Development Manager

Farmer Ray Sneed is seeing good performance with his soybeans with the help of Roundup Ready PLUS™ Weed Management Solutions.

"With the Roundup Ready PLUS platform, we’re getting better control of these resistant weeds," says Sneed, of Millington, Tenn. "We have a better chance of keeping our fields clean by using residual herbicides upfront and during the growing season."

Sneed reports that last year, he saw more 4 bean pods with his Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybeans. He added that they were hardier with more consistent yield.

Southern farmers like Sneed can achieve high yield potential and effective, economic weed control by using the Roundup Ready PLUS platform with Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans. The Roundup Ready PLUS platform offers best management practices developed with university academics for controlling tough weeds. It also provides financial incentives to help growers offset the cost of qualifying residual herbicides.

Some Southern farmers still concerned about weed control may have considered switching to the LibertyLink® system for a different mode of herbicide action. However, planting Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans in a systems approach offers better advantages.
  • Higher yield potential – University trials across the south showed Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans out yielded LibertyLink soybeans by an average of more than 5.0 bushels per acre.
  • Broader weed control – Roundup® agricultural herbicides provide powerful, consistent control of a broad spectrum of weed species – around 200 weeds, compared with just 120 weeds controlled with the LibertyLink system.
  • Timing flexibility – Farmers who plant Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield and apply Roundup PowerMAX® herbicide will have a 14-day pre-harvest interval for controlling late-season weed flushes to help protect yields. This is compared with a 70-day pre-harvest interval with the LibertyLink system.
As Sneed says, "This combination is a great fit for the future. The Roundup Ready PLUS platform is working. And Monsanto giving us a little money back to use it is great."
